Korea&US cultural interchange experience : school uniforms (intro:the reason I started my blog)
I started my blog just because I wanted to make my life record. My mother tongue is Korean, but now I'm learning English, Japanese and French.
I have lots of interests in foreign language and cultures.
The Story about my last year Summer Vacation
-cultural interchange program between Korean and American high schoolers
I participated in the cultural interchange program sponsored by the US department of state. There were about 50 Korean and American high school students. We all were divided into 5 teams and each team got the mission. Below the pic was our team!
We started moving to clear our mission, learning about Korean education history.
So, we arrived at Seoul Education Museum!
These are Korean school uniforms arranged chronically.
The first one is Hanbok, Korean traditional clothes. Students wore hanbok in the Josen Dynasty period.
Like in this picture, students wore HANBOK and studied in education institution called Seodang. Usually they studied cheonjamun (A thousand words) which were chinese characters.
Next to the boy wearing hanbok was Daehan Empire students. Girls' uniform seems similar to hanbok, but boys were wearing black hat and cloth.
Next to Daehan Empire is the uniforms that students wore in the era under the colonial administration of imperial Japan, the saddest period in Korean history. As in that period Japan controlled Korea, the uniforms were very similar to Japanese.
See? Although colors were quite different, girl's uniforms at that time were just same!
Both had red ribbon tie and similar shoulders.
And nowadays, there are various kinds of school uniforms.
I will show you uniforms of famous high schools in Korea.
<-Seoul Arts High School
Yellow color is so pretty!
As many Korean celebrities graduated this school, it became famous.
<-Korean Minjok Leadership Academy
It is a school where many smart students go, so it is really hard to enter.
They wear hanbok instead of uniform.
<-Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies
These are the uniforms made by a famous designer named Andre Kim.
<-Myungduk Foreign Language High School
<-Chungnam Foreign Language High School
After learning about korean school uniforms, many american students told me that they didn't wear uniforms in high schools. (although some private schools require)
It was really good experience to learn about both countries' school life and Korean uniform history!
